Hunt Of The Week :

Chalk up another one for Cooper Calls!
Although I've taken over 2 dozen Easterns with your calls since 1982, this was my first Merriams. The bird was taken on May 7, 2010 in the Black Hills of Wyoming. Spring sure is different in Wyoming...28 degrees, 25 mile an hour wind and 4 inches of fresh snow! Despite it all, he was gobbling and strutting as if it were sunny and 65. I had a perfect set-up and let him come all the way in to 12 yards before I pulled the trigger. That's how I like 'em...almost in my lap!
His beard was busted up a bit, but still a full 8". Unfortunately, in the picture it was soaking wet and all matted together from the wet snow. Likewise, I could hardly fan his tail for the picture because the wind was blowing so hard it would either blow right through it or bend it. Spurs were only 3/4 ", but were busted up and worn down. I think those Merriams are so pretty. I just had a ball out there!
Anyway, I thought you might enjoy seeing how I made out with those calls I bought this Spring.
Take Care,
Steve Martin
